The centrality of Going for Refuge.
Going for Refuge to the Buddha, Dharma and the Sangha is understood primary in the spiritual life. Particular lifestyles are understood as secondary: how Going for Refuge manifests in each of us is unique to our context and conditions. We could say that what is most important is our commitment to spiritual awakening, while the way we put this commitment into practice may vary from person to person and time to time. It’s a dynamic and never ending process.
Everyone can Go for Refuge, regardless of their choice to ordain or not.
Our founder wrote a book about his history of Going for Refuge, which is a cherished personal account of his own process. Many of us make it a practice to understand and share our life story through the lens of Going for Refuge.
