Event Description:

This is a new initiative led by young Triratna Buddhists! We offer classes by young people for young people. All are welcome! No prior experience of meditation necessary.

If you're in your 20s or early 30s, this is a great way to discover meditation and find out more about the teachings of the Buddha in a way that's relevant to your life, right here and now.

Our classes start with meditation and are followed by a talk from an experienced Buddhist and breakout groups to foster conversation and friendship-building.

About the Leaders:

Ananta has practiced within the Triratna Buddhist Community for 25 years and has spent over three years on retreat. He was Ordained in 2007 and is a leading teacher of Triratna New York and of the Triratna US & Canada Men’s ordination training team. He is currently the Chair of the NY-NJ sangha.

He is the CEO of Karuna USA, a Buddhist-inspired international nonprofit tackling poverty and discrimination in South Asia, and formerly led global youth empowerment initiatives with the United Nations. He is a certified Mindfulness teacher with Brown University.

Kate Twomey has been practicing within the Triratna Buddhist Community for two years and is on the journey of becoming a future mitra. They have been engaged with different Buddhist communities around the globe for over six years now, and have spent many months in retreat. They are also a seminarian and religious studies scholar who focuses on decolonial and queer approaches to mysticism.

Maxo Gaston is a first-generation Haitian American, an experienced civil rights attorney, and the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the University of Notre Dame Law School. He has served as a staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union where he successfully challenged the governor of Florida for violations of the First Amendment and Equal Protection Clause. He has ten-years experience of meditation and has taught mindfulness programs in the US and UK.
