Historical figure, legend, archetype — Padmasambhava is one of our more mysterious and challenging Buddhist ancestors. Padmasambhava’s story conveys much about the uncompromising practice of the Dharma in relation to tenacious internal and external forces.
Internally, we find Padmasambhava deep in meditation in the midst of the cremation grounds, facing the reality of impermanence and the poisons of greed, hatred and delusion, and finding the Dharma there.
Externally, we see Padmasambhava confronting the politics of his time, and the destructive forces that were undermining to the establishment of Buddhism in Tibet.
What can we learn from the stories of his struggle and transformation and the transformation of Tibet, and how does that apply to our own struggles, internal or external? How can the establishment of Buddhism in the USA transform our society?
