Course Description:
“Three things in human life are important. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. The third is to be kind.”
— Henry James
Kindness Behavior Training (KBT) has been developed as a follow-up course for those who have completed a course in mindfulness (such as MBCT or MBSR). It’s a great way to take further and expand on what has been learned in a previous mindfulness course. KBT is for anyone who values mindfulness and kindness and wishes to bring more of them into their life.
Drawing on techniques from positive psychology and third-way therapies and inspired by the Buddhist tradition, KBT examines the habitual patterns of mind that lead into negative emotions—anger, shame, anxiety. Using a “kindness toolkit,” we re-train ourselves to respond to difficult experiences with kindly awareness, which leads to resilience, confidence, and calm.
We will examine what kindness actually is, how we put kindness into practice in our daily lives, and a variety of meditation techniques for cultivating kindness.
Informal Schedule:
Each week will include guided meditations, a short talk to provide overview and contact, group discussion, and individual & collective reflections.
