Dana (pronounced “dah-na”) is a Pali word meaning generosity. Dating back to the time of the Buddha, there has existed an interdependence between those who offer the teachings and those who receive them. The teachings are given freely, since they are considered priceless.
Triratna NYC is entirely volunteer-run and our teachers are not paid. All of our expenses are met through monthly pledges, donations and revenue from classes.
At our classes and weekly friends night, there is a Dana bowl, and we encourage and appreciate monetary contributions to help cover our fixed monthly expenses. It takes money to provide a location for our community to gather, to have fresh flowers on the shrine, to provide tea for the break, and to make the teachings accessible to those with low incomes. No one is turned away for lack of money.
While contributing to the Dana bowl is a wonderful way to practice generosity and support our mission, committing to a monthly pledge is the best way to help our community thrive and grow.

WHAT A PLEDGE MEANS TO YOU:
Pledging at or above the recommended amount of $75 includes:
- Attending sangha (friends) night without making a donation, and paying the lowest rates for practice days.
- For those not attending sangha (friends) night, practice days are free.
Pledging below the rate of $75:
- Come to any sangha night, and consider contributing dana when you can afford to.
- Pay what you can for practice days.
Whether or not you pledge, everyone is welcome to be part of our community. If you wish to pledge an amount other than the above recommendations please talk with Vajramati or Padmadharini.
Triratna NYC strives to bring the Buddhist approach to individual spiritual development to as many people as possible. Your generous support helps us to advance our vision and make practice days and retreats available to those with low incomes.
We gratefully accept one-time donations in any amount by check, credit card, or online payment.
