Introduction Meditation
No meditation experience necessary.
Buddhist meditation promotes a state of calm-alertness and helps to cultivate compassion for ourselves and others. It is a valuable tool for identifying and realizing our potential and our place in the world. A regular meditation practice provides the clarity and perspective necessary to discover purpose and create personal change. It’s easy to learn to meditate.
In this course, you will learn two traditional meditation methods: Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana (Development of Lovingkindness). We provide clear, practical instruction for anyone wishing to establish an effective meditation practice. No previous experience is necessary.
Buddhism is a path of transformation, leading to Enlightenment. The Triratna Buddhist Community is dedicated to creating the conditions for such practice in the modern world. The Buddhist tradition has bequeathed a vast range of practices, and Triratna seeks to draw carefully and pragmatically on this huge spiritual reservoir, offering a systematic and coherent approach to Buddhist practice. We offer a four-week introduction from 8-9pm, open to those on the meditation course at no charge.
| Cost: $40 | For the four week course |
| Pay in Advance $35 | For the four week course |

Introduction to Buddhism Day
Sunday March 18th
Introduction to Buddhism One-Day Workshop. In this day long workshop we will explore some fundamental teachings of the Buddhist tradition. We’ll look at what is the goal of Buddhism. How does one practice as a Buddhist?
Commonly heard teachings will be explored in the framework of the Buddhist Threefold Path: Ethics, Meditation, Wisdom. Were you aware of the strong emphasis on ethics in Buddhism? How does meditation fit in to it?
There is always far more to explore than we can ever cover in our time together. We will emphasize those teachings that can be put into practice and that relate to our daily lives.Included in the day will be presentations, question & answer time, discussion and a brief introduction to meditation.
The day will run from 10am tp 4pm light lunch included.
Workshop fee: $40

What Kind of Buddhist was Steve Jobs, Really? | NeuroTribes
blogs.plos.org -By Steve Silberman Posted: October 28, 2011
One reason I was looking forward to reading Walter Isaacson’s new biography of Steve Jobs was my hope that, as a sharp-eyed reporter, Isaacson would probe to the heart of what one of the few entrepreneurs who really deserved the term “visionary” learned from Buddhism. By now, everyone knows the stories of how the future founder of Apple dropped acid, went to India on a quest for spiritual insight, …
